Orientale Concentus, conceptualised in 2008 with the purpose of promoting international arts and cultural exchange and youth choral music development, has seen a successful run across China, Taiwan and South Korea. Participants in earlier editions not only hail from host countries, but also from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and even the United Kingdom. The upcoming eighth edition of the festival is scheduled to take place once again in Singapore from the 23rd to 26th July 2015, at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the Esplanade. Orientale Concentus VIII is poised to attract close to 2,000 participants from 40 to 50 choirs around Asia after the successful run of OCVII this year with over 1600 participants.
In addition to the choral competition and master classes which are conducted by renowned adjudicators, the festival programme will incorporate community programmes aimed at raising social awareness, developing character and civic mindedness in the youth participants. These community programmes comprise of educational workshops that inculcate empathy, team work, confidence and self-awareness for our participants. Following the successful run of our unique concert series “Concert in the Dark” in 2014 aimed at raising awareness of the visually impaired, OCVIII will continue to push boundaries with the “Sign of Music” in 2015. The objective of this concert is to provide an authentic music experience that translates music into a series of tactile sensations, making music accessible to the hearing impaired. Through this concert we hope to provide the hearing impaired a platform for their voice to be heard, raising awareness as well as be part of our performances and believe that nothing is impossible.
